Sentosa Express

The Sentosa Express (Chinese: 圣淘沙捷运) is a monorail system in Singapore.
Built at a cost of S$140 million, it is the first in the world to use Hitachi's "small" straddle-type monorail. Construction of the physical track and stations started in 2003 and was completed in June 2006.
The Sentosa Express has 2.1 kilometres of double track connecting Sentosa Station located within VivoCity at HarbourFront on the mainland to Waterfront Station, Imbiah Station and Beach Station on the island of Sentosa. The system is part of the S$8 billion rejuvenation of Sentosa.
Three of the four stations are scheduled to be operational in December 2006, with the official opening in January 2007, but the Waterfront Station will only be opened in 2010 when the Sentosa Integrated Resort is built.
Four two-car trains will ply the route in eight minutes, and a full day ticket costs S$3. The S$3 fare allows visitors to board the beach trams and buses. Visitors who drive in can also ride on them, after parking their cars at a new 700-spot car park. Tickets that allow entry into Sentosa's tourist attractions will start from S$30.
The trains can move up to 4,000 commuters every hour. With a capacity of about 120 people per train, it will depart every five minutes during peak hours and every eight minutes during off-peak times. Stations will have platform screen gates.
While LRT-like in nature, it was not constructed by the Land Transport Authority and is thus not considered as part of Singapore's official LRT network.
