Anna Lindh died a year ago (September 11, 2003). Should we put this in? [[User:Sverdrup|Sverdrup❞]] 16:50, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

No - that is a death. But the day she was wounded is already a selected anniversary. --mav 05:02, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I noticed her on the main page the 10th, so I'm content. [[User:Sverdrup|Sverdrup❞]] 09:36, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

There are 6 events listed, when, along with a holiday, the guidelines suggest that there should only be 5. Shall we collaborate on which event to remove? Phoenix2 02:48, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

Let's remove 1987, Tosh. -- PFHLai 05:16, 2005 May 23 (UTC)
Yes, relative to the events listed that is probably the most insignificant (even me being from the Caribbean and a reggae fan. Phoenix2 21:52, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Strong Picture

I feel that the twin tower burning picture is associated by most people for this day so we should consider replacing the current Pinochet picture with the twin tower one. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 12:22, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Okay. The Pinochet pic had to be removed due to uncertain copyright status, anyway. -- PFHLai 16:16, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MISLEADING

The bit about the Chilean coup implies that 3,000 people died during the coup whereas this is just a compilation of all of the Pinochet-era deaths from 1973 to 1989. In addition, Pinochet didn't seize full control until September 13, so any mention of those deaths belong on that date. CJK 00:24, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Agree. That sentence has been removed. Thanks for pointing this out. -- PFHLai 13:26, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Important 100th Anniversary of a World Event missing.

Today (September 11, 2006) is the 100th anniversary of the launch of the Satyagraha movement in South Africa, the first ever Nonviolent resistance movement that Mahatma Gandhi launched. There are plans to celebrate it in different ways the world over. Ought to figure here. deeptrivia (talk) 04:40, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Mahatma Gandhi started his Satyagraha movement on 11th September 1906. This was an extremely important event which eventually lead the independence of an entire country (India). I think this must be mentioed on the main page. Thanks. --APandey 10:44, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Sounds good. Satyagraha could use a cleanup though. Melchoir 16:49, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
So shouldn't it be included? Time's running out. A centenary comes only once in a hundred years. deeptrivia (talk) 23:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Patriot Day

Today (September 11) is "Patriot Day" in the United States of America. (See http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/09/20060907-7.html). I am surprised that it is not listed as such, even when the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is listed.LemonJuice 23:09, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

It's not widely known as such. Melchoir 00:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I left this out deliberately when I do the annual update. The '9-11 attacks' is already a listed anniversary, so let's avoid over-featuring the same stuff. Variety is preferred. And, there is a 'soft cap' on the number of holidays listed on MainPage at 3 per day to avoid overcrowdedness. ('Soft' because sometimes TFA is long, ITN is short and I need stuffs to fill up the void on MainPage, sometimes I can't count, sometimes I can't decide what to leave out..... Strictly by the guidelines, 3 is max.) -- PFHLai 14:44, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
