Selenite (ion)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The selenite ion is SeO32−.

A selenite (compound) is a compound that contains this ion.

In slightly acid conditions, we have hydrogen selenite ion, HSeO3; with more acidic conditions we have selenous acid, H2SeO3.

Most selenite compounds can be formed by heating the relevant oxide with selenium dioxide, e.g., Na2O + SeO2 -> Na2SeO3.
