Seguin River

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Seguin River is a river in central Ontario which flows from its source near Huntsville, Ontario and empties into Parry Sound on Georgian Bay at the town of Parry Sound, Ontario.

A sawmill built at the mouth of this river in 1857 was one of the first industries in this area which later led to the founding of the town. The river was also used to float down the logs cut in the forests upstream.

The railway bridge spanning this river is one of the largest on the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Ice hockey legend Bobby Orr learned to skate on the frozen river.

The river's name comes from the Ojibwe word ziigwan, meaning "spring".
