The Sega Mega-CD 32X (Sega CD 32X in North America) is the name for a combination of 3 video game consoles build by Sega based on the Sega Mega Drive. Becuase of trademark issues Sega was forced to rename the Mega Drive and its addons for the US market.
[edit] Hardware
The Sega Mega-CD 32X consits of a Sega Mega Drive (NA: Sega Genesis) as the base console. It uses the CD-ROM add-on Sega Mega-CD (NA: Sega CD) for the game media and the Sega 32X for calculations that the Mega Drive's MC68000 couldn't perform quickly enough.[citation needed]
