[edit] Introduction

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. You might like to start by reading the tutorial and introducing yourself at the new users page. For ideas of what to put on your user page, see Wikipedia:User page.

If you have any questions, you can ask at the help desk or on my talk page. Two useful tips are that you can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~) and you can preview your changes before you save using the show preview button. You can regularly find new tips on the Community Portal. I look forward to reading your great articles and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. :) Angela. 03:15, Apr 25, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Re: list of rappers

Hmm... not sure why I didn't fix that. Ordinarily, I leave an invitation to fix it on the talk page and come back in twenty-four hours to do it myself if the anon doesn't. Must've been a breakdown in the system.... Tuf-Kat 13:06, Apr 30, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Gifted and talented

That term isn't really specific...any "higher level" courses for elementary or middle school children in America, Canada, the UK, etc. can be (and are) called gifted and talented. I know my school's gifted program was called that, and we're not in Western Australia. (I'm in Florida, USA.) Maybe this should get a rewrite with all the info in it, and the West Aus thing gets a passing mention. Mike H 03:36, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

  • Just following the format of Academic Talent Program. Secfan 03:38, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)
    • It is worth noting that the term is quite generic, though. :-) Mike H 03:40, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)
      • Okies, maybe I expand those articles soon to be more specific :) Secfan 03:41, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Template

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] .PS internet TLD

Thanks for leaving me a message, your'e doing a great job with the internet TLD's all over wikipedia!
I think that totally undeliberatly you put the reference of .PS in the State of Palestine article. Since you're not familiar with the situation.

The Palestinians & Israelis signed a joint peace agreement back in September 1993. Under that agreement, a institute called "Palestinian National Authority" (or more commonly just "Palestinian Authority") was established. This is a semi-autonomous body that rules on the area allocated to by the agreements. Please refer to Palestinian Authority article for more details of this body.

Under that agreement, the U.N bodies allocated the PS code to the Palestinian Authority; 970 telephone code (please look!) to the Palestinian Authority; also, .PS TLD was later registerd to it. The Registeries might sometime suggest "Palestinian Territories" as the name of which the code was assigned to; but that's only to avoid political sensitivities. Please look in Palestinian Territories for more info of this term. (go to "Meaning of the Term")

The last but most important thing you should know- the Palestinian leadership "declared" a "state" back in 1988, at a conference in Tunisia. Of course that this "declaration" has no importance or meaning whatsoever, except maybe symbolic. But this especially after the Oslo Peace agreements in 1993, which "officially" ended the state of ongoing wartime. Anyway, the 1988 "declaration" marked that the area of the "state" to all of Israel(!), with the proclaimed capital being Jerusalem. The article State of Palestine is there because the Palestinian Leadership technically didn't call this off, but of course they have no intrest in having any connection with this declaration (which is equals destruction of Israel = no peace). Try to read State of Palestine details (on the right) - to see it's something irrelevant. If you're adding any information to it, you are giving a legitimacy to something even the Palestinians don't want to have connection to. But moreover- you are adding the details to the wrong article (it should be in Palestinian Authority) - but I guess that's due to lack of knowledge in this subject. VICTOR 00:36, Dec 12 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Lines in the template

I never wrote the template to use the word line, and removed it when youa dded it because it is fairly obvious by the colour coding from within the articles and the table itself. It also makes the spacing of the page very awkward, and they are generally not necessary and every other station template does not use them. Thanks! Páll 05:39, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I think we should keep the word Rail, more for the fact that when people in Hong Kong talk about the Tung Chung, we don't say "I'm going to take the Tung Chung line to Tsing Yi, we say " I'm going to take the Tung Chung to Tsing Yi," but people say "I'm going to take the West Rail to ..." and we don't say "I'm going to take the West to ...." Anyway, that's my 8 Hong Kong cents. Páll 11:02, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

No no, I agree with using the word line in the article, which is why its used. The thing about the table is it is just that, a quick and handy reference so it is also important to make sure it is small and compact. I think, as it is a table, the context is clear enough without the word line, especially if we use the colouring. Páll 21:11, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. Msh210 00:17, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Secfan! You've made a large number of valuable contributions to Wikipedia during the past 16 months, and based solely upon edit count you are one of the project's top 100 editors. More edits over at Mao Zedong, though not necessarily by this user. Some are ok, but once again Jung Chang's views are being removed because she's "controversial". I'll consider some ammendments later on in the week, so please keep an eye out if they immediately start deleting them again. However I would really appreciate you adding to the debate. I'm tired of people discounting Jung Chang without actually backing up their allegations. Also if you feel you can/should put her views back in, go for it.

Cheers

[edit] Jung Chang

Hi, there. Listen I wouldn't get too excited about Jung Chang as a historian. She wrote a biography, so one can argue she's only a biographer. If it had been about the CCP as a whole, then certainly she would have been a historian.

For now I would just let her be referred to as an author, especially after Slim started getting involved. If you really feel we should list her as a historian I will change my mind and back you up. She still fulfills the description of a historian. However I think that we should not overplay our hand yet. Please could you try to find some articles where she is referred to as a historian, or where her works are referred to as "histories"? Because unless we can do that, we'll just start a revert war with the people who want to undermine her.

By the way, keep up the good work on necessary reverts. Message me if you have any problems John Smith's 30 June 2005 12:45 (UTC)

You created Jong as a redirect to Yang, but gave no reason why (Edit Summary is your friend!). I expanded it to an disambiguation page, so that I could have it link to Erica Jong.
