Secrets of Ishbal (Japanese: 「東方内戦」 - Touhou Naisen) is episode 39 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2004-07-10.
Colonel Mustang is dismayed to discover that Zolf Kimblee has been reinstated and is part of their force headed for Lior. Scar is in Lior and is dragging a large stone behind him, gouging the earth. He notices that there is a military balloon overhead. On their way to Ishbal, Edward refuses to show Marta any regret for killing Greed, but it's Kimblee and the homunculi she blames, not Ed. They arrive to find a desolate ruin. Marta explains that the Ishbal war was actually provoked by the activities of a Special Ops unit of which she and the other chimeras of Greed's entourage (minus Tucker) were a part. Marta's unit was arrested and imprisoned near Laboratory Five to ensure their silence, and to serve as lab specimens. Ed spots Havoc and Braeda snooping around, and he and Al (with Marta concealed inside Al's armor) accompany them back to Colonel Archer's camp. Ed realizes that another war is about to break out, but it's worse than that. The balloon surveillance photos reveal that Scar is drawing the same transmutation circle around the city of Lior that is on his right arm--the circle that is used in converting human lives into a Philosopher's Stone. Mustang wants to keep Ed and Al close for their own safety, but Colonel Archer sends Edward at his own request into Lior to scout the situation.
