[edit] Synopsis
Max, a 13-year-old boy is kidnapped from his father. Prue receives a cryptic plea for help through a Quiji board, "HELP MAX." She and Phoebe spring into action to save Max, a witch who has been kidnapped by a pair of vicious thugs aiming to make use of Max's powers to aid in the commission of a bank robbery. Meanwhile, Piper gets distracted from her troubles at work by the unexpected return of her lover Leo, but when Phoebe accidentally stumbles across the true reason Leo has come back, she begs him to tell Piper the surprising truth.
[edit] Quotes
Piper: A good witch is a clean witch.
Phoebe: Can I just say I am actually enjoying this?
Piper: That's because you're not doing anything.
Phoebe: Not true. I've painted my fingers and my toes.
Prue: I've just had some time to think.
Phoebe: Yeah, in all that spare time of yours.
Leo: I thought I'd tell her that as much as I love her and as much as I would like to stay in San Francisco, I can't, and I don't know how long my work will keep me away.
Phoebe: No, no, no. What you just said was as much as you would love to stay and have sex with her, you have a wife and kids in another part of the country. Try again.
Leo: Uh, Piper, you know how much you mean to me and more than anything, I wish things could work out, but they can't and no one is more sorry than me.
Phoebe: Translation: I found someone I like even better.
Leo: I'm completely confused.
Piper (angry): It's Harry, the new chef at Quake. He threw out all my Henckel knives. Apparently, he prefers Forscheners.
Phoebe (to Prue): You follow any of that?
Prue: No.
Phoebe: Wait... you want me to keep a secret? Hello! Wrong Halliwell!
Prue: And I realize that I do want kids. I think that I'd make a great mom.
Phoebe: So, did you save Max or did Max save you?
Piper: So good to see you. How are you?
Leo: Better now. How are you, Piper?
Piper: I'm better now too.
Phoebe: Don't look in my diary.
Prue: What if it's someone just crying out?
Phoebe: Well, it's not like it's AT&T.
(after kissing Leo)
Piper: So glad you're back.
Harry: Hey. You must be... Pippen.
Piper: Piper.
Piper: You're fired!
Harry: Ooh. Attractive and fiesty.
Phoebe: You are a warlock, aren't you?
Leo: No!
Phoebe: But still, most normal handyman use ladders! Are you a witch?
Leo: No.
Andy: One day, I'm gonna figure out your secret Prue. Count on it.

- Max Franklin: Max Franklin was a young boy who inherited psychokinetic powers from his mother. Unfortunately, she died when he was very young and had therefore not been able to prepare him to deal with his power. Max is later kidnapped by a friend's brother, in order for him to break into a bank, and his father is too terrified to say anything to the police. However, Max manages to send a distress signal to Prue, who comes to his aid.

[edit] Trivia
- The episode title is a play on words to the 1996 movie Secrets & Lies.
- We learn in this episode that Leo is a Whitelighter.
- This is the first episode where we can see there are male witches.
- In this episode, Leo refers to his superiors as The Founders, but in later episodes, they are referred to as The Elders.
- In this episode, there are certain points of contention about the role and powers of whitelighters. For example, Leo tries to sense Prue but to no avail; however, in future episodes, Leo is able to sense his charges unless they're magically shielded or in the Underworld. Also, Leo says that witches aren't supposed to know about their Whitelighters but in future episodes it's clear a lot of witches do know, for example, the witch with the power of deflection in Blinded by the Whitelighter knew about Nathalie, her whitelighter.
