Secretary of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Secretary of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award is a decoration of the United States Coast Guard which was issued from 1992 to 2003. The decoration is considered the highest unit award of the Coast Guard and is presented to those Coast Guard units which perform outstanding service to the Coast Guard as a whole.

The Presidential Unit Citation (US) and Joint Meritorious Unit Award are considered senior to the Secretary of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award. Additional awards of the decoration are denoted by gold award stars.

With the transfer of the Coast Guard to the Department of Homeland Security, the Secretary of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award has been discontinued for issuance. However, the decoration still appears on military precedence charts and is authorized for continued wear on Coast Guard uniforms.
