Secord Township, Michigan

Secord Township is a township in Gladwin County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,140 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 60.6 km² (23.4 mi²). 58.2 km² (22.5 mi²) of it is land and 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it (3.97%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,140 people, 551 households, and 382 families residing in the township. The population density was 19.6/km² (50.7/mi²). There were 1,373 housing units at an average density of 23.6/km² (61.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.21% White, 0.09% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population.

There were 551 households out of which 12.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.05 and the average family size was 2.41.

In the township the population was spread out with 12.8% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 16.6% from 25 to 44, 38.1% from 45 to 64, and 28.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 56 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $30,500, and the median income for a family was $34,453. Males had a median income of $34,107 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the township was $18,542. About 12.1% of families and 16.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.8% of those under age 18 and 9.6% of those age 65 or over.
