[edit] History

Second Baptist is a private school in Houston Memorial area. In 1946-47, a group of dedicated Houstonians combined their talents and resources to establish a unique elementary school. The purpose of founding the school was to provide a place of learning where students would grow academically, spiritually, physically, and socially. On February 3, 1947, Second Baptist School opened its doors to 14 kindergarten students.

In 1974, the Middle School began with 6th grade and each year another grade was added to complete the middle school level. In 1978, the Upper School began with the 9th grade and by 1982, the school provided an instructional curriculum of grades pre-kindergarten through twelve.

Today, SBS is a widely recognized Christian collegiate community, serving approximately 1,000 students from PK – 12. As a self-supporting agency of the Second Baptist Church of Houston, the school enjoys the use of nearly 1,000,000 square feet of educational and recreational facilities on a 42 acre, Memorial area campus.
