Seb Rochford

Seb Rochford is a British drummer, spanning many genres. He drums in bands such as Acoustic Ladyland, Oriole, Ingrid Laubrock Quintet and leads Polar Bear, both part of the F-IRE Collective. He has also worked extensively with Joanna McGregor and Andy Shepherd. He co leads the band Fulborn Teversham with Pete Wareham and has an improvising duo with Leafcutter John.

There have been two releases by Polar Bear, Dim Lit and Held On The Tips Of Fingers, both on Babel Label. The latter was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005.

Seb's range of influences include Napalm Death, Venetian Snares, Björk, Prince and contemporary electronica as well as a large dose of jazz. His appearance (notably his large hair) and phenomenal technique and imagination have made him one of the most in-demand drummers of modern times in the London Jazz scene. An exciting prospect for British Jazz and the further development of modern music.

Seb won the BBC Jazz Award for best newcomer in 2004, and has been nominated as best musician in 2006.
