[edit] Icons & Portals
Hey there, Go for it! The debate on the main page design has gotten me interested in icons, especially in relation to portals and categories. It's clear icons won't be on the main page but they are already present on the portals and categories pages. I've been looking through commons and was wondering what you would think of using for philosophy/religion? Cheers SeanMack 17:12, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- I have no problem with you applying that symbol to philosophy. Yin & Yang is a cool symbol, and highly philosophical. By the way... would you like to have some fun? Check out Wikipedia:Main Page alternates -- a couple of them use icons. Change whichever ones you like (but please keep them on topic). I think "Shades of blue" and "Misty breeze" are the ones. --Go for it! 13:48, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Concerning icons on the Main Page redesign: icons could be used in the header if there wasn't a wrapping problem. If you could find a way to turn off the wrap for specific page elements, then that could pave the way for the use of icons in the portal matrix. But hurry, we only have a few days left. --Go for it! 13:48, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hey again. Thanks for the notes. I wasn't sure which portal matrix you were refering to? I been messing about a bit with various portals incarnations. I've been doing it in my sandbox as I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be adopted.
Anyway here are some links into commons where I got the icons.
- http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nuvola_icons
- http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Tango_project
- http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Topic_symbols
- My thinking was that because they were portal pages the jigsaw piece made sense (jigsaw being the portal icon already) - especially as these individual icons get created already for stubs and templates - there is a, 2 birds one stone, thing going on there. We can keep adding portal icons for as long as we keep adding portals - there would be a consistant feel by using the jigsaw piece. There may be better ways of doing this mind you...
Thanks for pointing out the alternative main pages, having looked at them, Misty Breeze would be my absolute personal favorite by a long shot. I had a play with it in my own area to get my head around transclusions etc and came up with a couple of portal sections. One using jigsaw pieces - and another that didn't. I also changed a few of the heading icons on there. It's at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SeanMack/sandbox2 if you wanted a look?
I've been looking at related issues and have also seen a few people commenting on the whole Categories & Portals hierarchies and how these need restructured a fair bit (eg User:Vir). I would agree and my opinion is that having individual portals on the main page at the minute is a bit premature before an overall restructure happens... Big job though... A few thoughts I had about the problem:
- Many people will oppose icons on the main page for various reasons. If that reason is performance - surely some techs can set up caching so that the icons have less of a hit on the servers?
- We should ensure that when we talk about Categories we are very specifc about the difference between a normal idea of a category and those within wikipedia. I had originally thought that the main page should have overall headings (like categories and portals browse at the minute - however I'm not sure if we should refer to these as Categories. I think there is a need to separate 'Subject Heading' from Categories - as this has a very specific meaning within the wiki.
- The overall headings could be represented by the Nuvola icons - with portals being represented by the jigsaw icons - categories I think could do without icons - this would make more sense as textual (with decent formatting mind you).
- I do think it's confusing to have the same "look and feel" on both sets of pages currently though. Do you know what the current plans are regarding all that?
A completely different approach would be where a selection of portals is chosen each week and added via template to a header (not neccessarily just the featured one though), the options then would be:
- Show off the best portals
- Show featured portals
- Encourage people to work on new portals
- Encourage widescale thinking about categories and meta information. (I came across something about root pages but was too busy playing in my sandbox at the time...)
I am keen to get involved in the usability side but don't know where to start here? I have experience in RL. Could you point me at an up to date page where helpers are welcome? Regards SeanMack 14:00, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- What is RL?
The jigsaw piece makes it hard to see what the picture is. I still can't tell what some of those are.
By the way, there are already icons on the Main Page. Check out the Wikipedia Sister projects. No one complains about those.
The problem with the word "categories" is that Wikipedia has hijacked the word for its own context, so if you want to use the generic english context, "subject categories" is less ambiguous.
The biggest objection to icons on the main page at the moment is the "ugly wrap" problem. That is, the icon is treated by the program as a word and not a bullet, so when you increase text size, wrapping is activated and the icon winds up on one line and the link on the next. If you can find a way to turn off wrapping for an element rather than the whole page, this would solve the problem. I don't know how to do it.
There aren't enough Nuvola icons to cover all the portals.
Concerning plans, Wikipedia is very chaotic and decentralized. Very ad hoc. Also, it is nearly impossible to make a standard design stick across pages because of the "anyone can edit" rule.
You mentioned 2 sets of pages, and I didn't know what you were referring to. One user wanted to make the Help page and Community Portal match the Main Page, but on retrospect I think they should have their own identity. If you were referring to the Main Page alternates, it doesn't matter, because that's for users to pick the design they want, and some will want the Main Page with slightly different features, like icons. Confusion isn't a big problem here, because those pages are all fully operational and the links lead to the same places anyways.
Yes, I have some suggestions on where you can chip in:
- What is RL?
- The column version of picture of the day (which is used on most of the Main Page alternates) needs to be kept stocked up in advance. Currently there is only one person doing this (me), but it's good if more than one person is keeping an eye on it. The link to the archive/cache is on the Main Page alternates talk page. Basically you go to the pic of the day archive, copy each day's entry over to our corresponding pages, and strip out the chart markup code (see a previous pic for an example).
- The Wikipedia:WikiProject Help is about to undertake a redesign of the Wikipedia namespace and the help system (most of the help system is in the Wikipedia namespace). The first step is to create a site map of what's already there, to see what we have to work with. If you want to become an expert on everything Wikipedia, this would be the place to do it. We got off to a false start, because the lists put up for us to work with are incomplete, with key pages missing. So we've got to go back to the database dump and start over.

I like your portal matrix. Do you have those icons without the puzzle pieces? Please provide me the links. I'd really appreciate it. --Go for it! 00:14, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Picture of the Day
Hi Sean,
Just to let you know that your photo Image:FalkirkWheelSide 2004 SeanMcClean.jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on tomorrow. As this will be a weekend, it should also appear on the MainPage. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/February 18, 2006.
- I think it is awesome. Thanks for the great picture.--Josilot 04:37, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- Can you upload that fine picture to commons also? --213.139.183.195 13:20, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Sean, I see you have fixed the description of the second Falkirk Wheel image. I do not know if you saw what it had been changed to before I atempted to change it back. After changing it I checked some references and thought about it again. So the space below the axle of the wheel is like a dry dock, is it not? Otherwise there would be evidence of water dripping down onto the axle and the boats below.. Thanks for the contributions you have made, now there is lots more I can say.. Regards, Gregorydavid 14:42, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Sean I am producing a leaflet and would like to use your picture of the Falkirk wheel as it illustrates engineering development in Scotland. I know you have given permission to use the image but I thought I ought to check it was ok first? Thanks DrBhoy 11:07, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles
Dear, SeanMack I recently noticed that you added more articles to the good articles list. I hope that you will accept my personal invitation to come join the Wikiproject Good Articles and will continue to keep adding article to the GA list.
- Hi Sean. Thanks for the message. I'll look at the Good Article link you gave me and make an assessment based on the guidelines there. The principle reason I would object is that the article currently carries many disputes and is constantly being reverted and having POV added and removed. Considering the subject, it would probably be hard to avoid this. But, bearing this in mind, I'm actually trying to create my own complete version of the article which I hope to submit in a week or two. Looking at the GA guidelines may turn out to be very useful in undertaking this project.. so thanks again. --Mal 04:33, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- Excellent Sean - I had been wondering about how to get the article replaced, as I thought simply replacing it by edit might have been a bit too bold! Thanks again. --Mal 05:46, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Streamlining GA/FA/1.0 etc
Hi Sean, Thanks for your posting on my talk page. I do think it would be wonderful if we could get all of the different projects like WP:1.0, WP:GA, WP:AA, WP:FAC and so on all to work together more smoothly - I wish sometimes we could get everyone together in one (large!) room for a day and agree on some common standards and procedures. However it sounds like you have some specific ideas in mind, I presume relating to the peer review aspect. Can you explain your ideas in more detail? I think that some form of peer review is needed for GA, but it should be quicker and simpler than for FA. Regarding CS gas, I hope it's good, I printed off a copy for one of my students today - he's going to do a poster about CS gas! I'll try to give it a closer look over the next few days. Gan canny, Walkerma 06:22, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me, I'll have to think about your offer. Maybe you can come up with a list of Assessment/Validation/Peer review projects you know about, and we can pool our ideas? I apologise for not reading over the CS gas article yet, I've been up half the night with this, a proposed new page for the 1.0 project - this does mention the related projects more clearly. Probably tomorrow I'll take a look at CS gas, I hope I don't get tears in my eyes when I do. Cheers, Walkerma 08:43, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I did a little bit of work on CS gas and the related malononitrile, but I'd like to come back to that. I have a conference to get ready for in Atlanta that will keep me tied up, though not totally away from Wikipedia - my talk on Sunday morning is on chemical information - "Wikipedia, Social Revolution or Information Disaster". When I can catch up on sleep I will look again at CS gas.
As for collaborating on things, I see that as something we could do over the next few months, not necessarily just this weekend - so don't apologise! Please take a look at the new-style WP:1.0 page, and see how what we're doing there fits in with other projects like GA. I get the feeling that at least some people see the WP:1.0 project as an umbrella for a variety of "meta-projects" - if that ends up being another aspect of the project then that's fine by me, as I think such an umbrella is a good thing. (Note, we've had three new proposed sub-projects start in the last fortnight!). At least WP1.0 can provide a focus for many projects, and a justification, e.g. for GA and for Stable Versions. Keep in touch, Walkerma 17:07, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tipping
Just wondering if you think a bit about spell checker addins is worthwhile - I've got one for IE but never got round to installing the firefox version as it wasn't as straightforward. Cheers SeanMack 09:54, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
It sounds cool. Write it up, and I'll make use of that tip! --Go for it! 09:56, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
- Do we want to give external websites as guides? Here's the websites I used, I got the firefox one working for v1.5, but can't vouch for the older version.
- Spell checker for IE:
- Spellchecker for Firefox and the Mozilla Suite = SpellBound 0.7.3
- & Firefox 1.5:
Just not sure about writing it up with external links - whats your thoughts? SeanMack 15:02, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
- Not a problem. Those programs aren't available on Wikipedia, so it's okay. Here's a link for you:

[edit] Asalouyeh
Thanks - It definitley needs references. Most of this info comes from my own visits to Asalouyeh, so it's hard for me to point to something concrete. How does Wikipedia handle that, is that a valid reference?
The other issue is that most of the online material for Asalouyeh is in Farsi (the language of Iran), so that's not much help either.
I'll hunt around for material on the net in English anyhow. Thanks for noticing my article. --Commking 18:28, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:SeanMack/sandbox/Good2
I was going to do precisely the same thing as you with the colours (putting light blue in) and was about to split up art, architecture etc in the same way! I think it looks nice. I have had a go at splitting up the war and military section and am quite pleased with the results (User:TheGrappler/Good3), so if you want to borrow from that, feel free! I expect you'll generate support for the lay-out, you've done a lot of good work on it :) 15:43, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'll leave a couple of edits on yours if you don't mind, since yours looks closer to a final proposal. I think it's almost there now... TheGrappler 16:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think we're ready to roll :) I couldn't reproduce that bug you were having but it did happen to me on some other sections and it vanished as mysteriously as it came, sometimes just by refreshing the cache, if I recall correctly. I like your new article divider by the way! It think it'd be an idea to start proposing it now - would be interesting to see if anybody else experiences that bug. We might end up changing it extensively before it is accepted, but if we are changing in response to criticism that's probably more helpful than just changing according to our tastes :) TheGrappler 17:54, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good Articles
From my talk page...
Hi Jordan, I see you've been active around the GA pages. You'll see a new look proposal for the GA page on the talk page. I'd really appreciate it if you take a look and post your feedback. TheGrappler has done some sterling work on categorisations within the section which I think will make it much easier to find articles for viewing, and easier for editors to include and remove articles. [edit] GA nominees
Hey, I noticed you're making a lot of noms to the GA list. That's great! The only trouble is you're not inserting the GA template on the talk page, and I've noticed two of your noms don't have ref sections, which is a criteria for GA status. Thanks. Air.dance 01:42, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
What is a Good Article states "It is referenced" as a GA requirement. So, yes, it is. Nifboy 06:14, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- The second sentence of the section you pointed me to states that, in addition to an inline external link, "A full citation ought then be given in the References section". WP:V was always policy but it was never really enforced for any but the most obscure facts until now. Nifboy 06:43, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm not so concerned about references but I know others are. As Suikinkutsu goes, I wouldn't mind expanding the links into full citations, if possible; right now it just looks like an "external links" section masquerading as a references section. Nifboy 17:45, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mundaring Weir
Just what I need when I go offline for at least a week to find one good mundaring weir wa art and one real mess of an article mundaring weir. I suggest you need to kill one and put it to sleep quietly~! I'm literally out of it due to telstra taking a whole week to kill one adsl line and build a new one a suburb away. [edit] Request
Hi SeanMack,
My name is Fernanda Viégas and I have been studying Wikipedia for a while now (you can see a paper I published on the subject here). I would like to ask you a few questions about your activities as a Wikipedia "photographer." I am fascinated by the pictorial side of Wikipedia and it would be great to hear about this community from one of its members. Would you be available for an email interview? Thanks, Fernanda 00:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC) | talk

[edit] Good articles
Nobody has reverted the redesigned good articles page - haven't even seen talk page moans, so I'll take that as a success, well done! :) Looks great in my opinion. I see we've both got into POPUP and geographical coordinates (I'm doing work on Norwegian lakes at the mo, and the options at the end for selecting country and scale are well worth playing around with). I also noticed you've been very busy nominating articles for GA status! I suspect their is a rich seam to mine in Category:Mathematicians, since there are some excellent maths biography sites online which mean that many mathematician bios are actually referenced (and the older ones will have PD pictures available to nab, too). I've designed a {{WikiProjectGATasks}} (on display at Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles that lists open tasks for the GA project. I wondered if you thought it might be useful? I can't quite figure if it should go somewhere else too - I guess the talk page for WP:GA might be an appropriate place. TheGrappler 03:34, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks; the new template needs fairly frequent updating to be meaningful, but it about 5 GA "regulars" used it then it would probably be kept up to date well enough. WP:CSB's template (it's based on that) gets updated painfully slowly, but mainly because even WP:CSB, probably Wikipedia's worthiest project, can't sort out neglected articles at the rate it would like to. Some synergy with the reference and fact-checking project would be cool, even if it was only to ask them to pass on any well-referenced non-FAs onto the noms page. I can see grutness's point - the reason, I guess, is "human biology" links the two fields of medicine and biology far too closely. It is nice to see people saying good things about the GA page redesign, isn't it? :D And it looks like there may be a cure for "show all", which would be fantastic. Not strictly related to the coordinates, but very similar, have you had a look at [1] - also very cool. TheGrappler 16:31, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My article (Zaib-un-Nissa Hamidullah)
Hi, I wanted to ask you about the references. I was wondering, can you cite one of the person's own books as references? Because I did take some information from there. You know, from the 'about the author' bit. Please reply ASAP.--Le Grey Intellectual 08:17, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I've added her books as references, and cleaned up spelling and grammar problems. Do you think I should nominate it again?--Le Grey Intellectual 10:35, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] GA Nom page fixed
Thanks for the note :) I think I fixed the GA noms category work -- it was only food being added to society parens then. If you get a chance to comment, what do you think of the revised category headings? Are they more helpful? --Vir 02:34, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stuff
My template-god, when I need to summon one, has been the incredibly helpful User:Locke Cole but I don't know if what you're looking for is quite in his ballpark.
I've been wondering about the multiple sub-sections on the good articles list, and have tried experimenting to get a "cleaner" feel, more like in the de: list. User:TheGrappler/Good3 contains my latest experiment - I did it as an experiment and was surprised by how much I like it. It looks less messy when there isn't a queue of "edit" buttons, and some of the big sections e.g. geography and history come out looking much more compact. Any thoughts? TheGrappler 20:17, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting thoughts! I will definitely implement the "hidden" subtitles on the main page, that's a big improvement! Yes, German wikipedia's page is lovely, and you're right about the borders - it would look much nicer (especially against a blue background), but I don't know how to do it unfortunately. The real thing that attracted me to the compact format was the fact that some sections, like history, were now taking up more than my screen could show. All the repeated "edit" buttons can look a bit ugly, but I am not sure that your version looks sufficiently better on-screen to justify removing them given that they do have some utility. So, not sure really, but will definitely have a bit of a think. And I will implement the "hidden section name" thing, that's neat! TheGrappler 13:41, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry
I'm sorry I used you as an example, my fingers were aiming for something else too.. it's mainly because I feel really bad today, paint fumes, dying internet, people screaming at me.. and it was just the usual; more inconsiderate nominations, more reviews that I get shouted at, more words of support about how I suck. I just feeling like I'm managing to piss everyone off and it's really depressing.. I'm sorry, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 16:47, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Half way maybe.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Half way maybe.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 00:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Liverpool F.C. good article nomination
I noticed you've nominated Liverpool F.C. for good article status. I not too familiar with the good article process, but given the length of the article I think a listing on peer review is probably more appropriate. Anyhow, I listed a couple of possible improvements on the Liverpool F.C. talk page. Oldelpaso 18:41, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Eritrea GA Nomination
You marked the Eritrea article with a GA....if you are still interested I would hope you would think that after your review it would still qualify as a GA. ThanksMerhawie 19:05, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Sean. I'm sorry I haven't yet got around to explaning my edits. I'll try do make time to do some at some point this week. In light of this, I'm fine with your revert for the time being. Good luck with your efforts there in the mean time :). Thanks, --cj | talk 12:43, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, the helpme tag is not meant to assist in unblocks. You'll have to contact the admin who blocked you. --Pilot|guy 15:29, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've had the unblock tag on my talk page all night with nothing happening. I checked the unblock page and it doesn't look like anyone is dealing with the cases at all. I have sent a wiki email also to the user who blocked the IP ADDRESS not me. This new autoblock facility really is a pain.... SeanMack 15:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tip of the day project update
Just trying to get things better organized around there. Toward that end, I've created a task list template for the project. If all the contributors to the project placed it on their user page, we could all keep in touch more easily (with announcements, alerts, etc.). It, and the latest announcements can be found at:

[edit] Java
Heheh you may well ask for refs, try almost the whole Indonesian project matey, and you'll be all day putting "This article needs refs..." Ask me I did post grad work in Java, and I can tell you its like books dont exist or the external links are ads :) SatuSuro 00:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Villa to pip 'pool to premiership crown
G'day Sean - hopefully the above subject header will catch your attention :) As high as my optimism is, I don't quite beleive it. Anyhoo - I'm over here in NZ just now, and have lost your email address and would like to keep in touch. If you'd like to reciprocate and shoot the breeze over the virtues of Pennant and which 10 match accumulator will win you your next $$$ then drop me a line to my paul at my acetips web address. [edit] GA for Al Jazeera
Thanks for removing the incorrectly licenced image and adding source details. I don't think the FU rationale added was suitable, so I've added my own. I've removed the On-Hold status for the article. Alexj2002 17:12, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

- NP. I seem to be having an obsession with refs and section orders recently - maybe something to do with the little amount of brainpower needed to slap a references section on a page....
==References== <!--See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Footnotes for an explanation of how to generate footnotes using the <ref(erences/)> tags--> <div class="references-small"> <references /> </div> {{unreferenced}}
- I've been using this quite a lot recently, sometimes it even works and when I come back again there are magically refs on a page :-), hmmm except for Java of course..... SeanMack 07:09, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Please stop the school-teacher thing
Just saw your edits to karst.

- Needs to cite references to be a good or featured article
Yes, it costs nothing to make such a high-and-mighty condemnation of an article -- but the people who built that article (no, I was not one of them, but it is a good article) put a lot of work in, on their own time, and slamming them is not going to encourage them.
Please desist. Or, better still, why not *add* an appropriate reference, as an example? Would that not be more constructive than the sneering "this is so amateur" effect you currently portray?
quota 18:24, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry you feel so offended. All am doing is marking that it needs references - something that a lot of other people also do. It's not meant to be a criticism from on high. I actually have entered references for many articles recently. Also most articles I add the unreferenced template to, I add a link to an article that describes how to use the new-ish referencing method. This is the sort of thing that many people are considering as a way forward to improve the verifiability within Wikipedia. I can assure you I have none of the emotive attitudes that you ascribe to me. Here are just the most recent articles that I have added references to recently:
- There are many others I have added the same message as the message on karst. It takes time to look up reliable references and add them to articles - I can only do so many and think it's not a harsh thing to add a references section to an article as a starting point for those editors who aren't necessarily aware of the importance of these things. This is particularly true of Wikipedia:Good Articles and Wikipedia:Featured Articles, which is where my edit comment comes from. If anything it is an encouragement that this is a decent article but will need referencing, as opposed to me criticising anyone. I am more than happy to take your advice on changing my edit summary to something that you would find more acceptable, so do let me know. I also do think it is useful for the project to add these reference sections where they don't yet exist, so if you can help me use wording that won't upset others than would be good. Cheers SeanMack 02:34, 4 September 2006 (UTC).

- OK, thanks for the reasoned reply. I am, I suppose, being a bit over-sensitive; I apologise. I think what reads badly was the edit summary:
- Needs to cite references to be a good or featured article
- which to me implies that it is not currently a good article. How about using something such as 'good article, but needs references'? quota 09:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

- No problem quota, I had meant Wikipedia:Good articles, as opposed to just a subjective view of a what good article is. I will be more explicit in my edit summaries from now on. Regards. SeanMack 11:05, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Exactly what in your opinion needs to be "cleaned up" at this article? Adam 10:13, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
I always find this tag very annoying. If you think the article can be improved, then improve it. Adam 10:29, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
As a general rule I would advise against editing on subjects you know nothing about, and against editing while drinking. Nvertheless, most of your edits are valuable. That was a much more useful thing to do than just sticking a "clean-up" tag on the article. I have made a few changes to your edits. "Aka" is a horrible Americanism which should never appear. Those vulgar purple quote marks will be used over my dead body. Adam 14:12, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:GreencastleHarbour 2004 SeanMcClean.jpg
You marked this image as GFDL but the image description page also states that the GFDL only applies to the digitization of the image. Could you please clarify what this means? Since this is a slavish reproduction of a 2D image, there really should be no copyright applicable to the digitization -- the copyright should be the same as the original image. You also wrote that you have permission from the artist -- does this mean Wikipedia-only permission (which isn't allowed)? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 21:10, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Catalpa Exhibition
Hi SeanMack, I hope you dont mind me asking, Its just you are so good at photos. I recently added to the catalpa article... "On 22nd September 2006 an exhibition named Escape, Fremantle to freedom, was opened at Fremantle prison displaying many artifacts relating to the catalpa rescue. the exhibition is FREE to enter and uses modern touchscreen systems to allow reading of many books, journals and diary's on display for the first time. After three months the exhibition is due to travel around museums around Australia."... Its a fine collection, au$500.000 and five years of effort by the cutorial team and staff. I will be manning it on Sunday 1st October 9 till 5, but come along any time. Bring your camera! Ghostieguide 14:08, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Automated spelling changes
Hi - I gather you're using some sort of browser assist (AWB perhaps?) to make spelling corrections. I noticed in this edit whatever tool you're using apparently made some white space changes (looks like it deleted spaces at the end of lines in this case). To reduce the "noise" of such diffs, can you configure the tool to NOT do this? And, BTW, thanks for the actual spelling corrections. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:LuckyBamboo 2005 SeanMcClean.jpg
Greetings! I wonder if this might be misidentified. I think, contrary to the image description, that this really is Dracaena sanderiana and not D. fragrans 'Stedneri'. Was wondering if you had specific material or sources that identified this particular variety as looking like that. (D. fragrans is much larger and has a much different growth habit from the plant in that photo, in my opinion.) Your thoughts? --Rkitko 07:58, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hey there. I think you are probably correct, the only info I had to go on was the tag when I bought it that described it as lucky bamboo - unfortunately that doesn't really help with the detail... It wasn't myself who added the Dracaena fragrans 'Stedneri' description. Please feel free to change it - I just don't know enough to say one way or the other. Regards. SeanMack 12:10, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. The commons history only had one editor, I assumed it was you with a different username at wiki commons. I'll go ahead and change it (and replace that terrible photo at the D. sanderiana article, Image:Lucky Bamboo.jpg, with your photo.) Thanks! --Rkitko 17:10, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
