The assembled human DNA clamp, a trimer of the protein PCNA, is a processivity factor that increases the speed and efficiency of DNA replication. In the assembled replication complex, the clamp encircles the DNA, which passes through the central pore, and binds DNA polymerase to prevent the enzyme from dissociating from the template DNA strand. The DNA clamp protein's presence can increase the rate of DNA synthesis up to 1,000-fold versus a nonprocessive polymerase. Illustration credit: Opabinia regalis |

[edit] How You Can Help
- I borrowed this:
- Review the list of newest articles (offset by 10,000). These articles are around 3-5 days old, depending on volume, but still lots to clean up and improve there.
- Visit and comment on AfD nominations with a low number of evaluations. It's difficult to reach consensus with only two or three opinions, so your input would be greatly appreciated.
- Dive into WikiProject: Fact and Reference Check. There is a huge backlog over there, and we are in desperate need of good researchers and fact checkers.
- Look over the lists at Requested Articles. If you see something you're familiar with, take a stab at creating a new article.

[edit] Info
Born in Derry. I studied in Derry [1] [2] [3], Manchester [4], Belfast [5]. I have worked in Derry, Les Landes, Croydon, Guernsey, Dublin and Edinburgh. I now live and work in Perth, Western Australia. I reckon the BBC website sets a standard in quality. I enjoy adding my own images to wiki (as appropriate) to help illustrate the articles here.
Why do I do Wiki? "Cos I can....."
