Sean Burns is a fictional character, played by actor Michael J. Jackson (actor), in the Franco-Canadian television series Highlander: The Series. He is an Immortal.

Sean Burns was born in 760, Tyroconnell, Ulster. Sean Burns became a monk living in a monastery on the island of Iona. He was killed later on in 805 by Viking raiders and then became Immortal. Sean found his true calling after that to become a healer of the mind. Over the centuries, Sean has helped many people with their problems by becoming one of the most dedicated psychiatrists around, he studied with Sigmund Freud and learned a lot from him.
Centuries later, he would become a teacher to newly Immortal Steven Keane. Steven later on lost a good friend, the Earl of Rosemont to Duncan MacLeod, who is also a friend of Sean Burns. Sean has helped Steven Keane by convincing Steven that revenge is not the way to go, convincing him to leave MacLeod alone.

In France, Sean goes to the 100th wedding anniversary party of Robert and Gina de Valicourt, an Immortal couple, there, other guests include Duncan MacLeod, Hugh Fitzcairn, and Carolyn Mortimer.

During World War I, Sean Burns is the psychiatrist at the army hospital in France, where there he helped the soldiers heal their mind from the war. A man who went insane at the hospital, was about to stab another person, Duncan MacLeod, a soldier and medic tried to help the man. Sean Burns came in and helped the man calm him down. Outside the hospital, Sean and Duncan talk about the war and other things, Duncan is feeling guilt about the people who are wounded and dying cause of the war and that he is not doing a fine job of saving them, Sean tells him that it's not his fault and he should not be feeling the way he does cause Duncan didn't cause the soldiers' wounds and deaths.

Sean is still a psychyatrist, now working in Limay, France, living in a big house. Sean gets a call from his friend, Duncan MacLeod, who is under the influence of a Dark Quickening. Duncan goes to visit Sean and Sean can see that Duncan looks unwell. Duncan can't fight off the evil in him. Methos arrives and sees that Duncan has his sword drawn and can't interfere. Sean tries to talk to Duncan, but Duncan ends up beheading Sean Burns and receives his Quickening. Now Sean is a part of Duncan, Methos is able to help Duncan by taking him to an ancient spring, it is there where Duncan fights his dark side with the help of Sean Burns who tell Duncan to use Sean's good to fight the evil and the good Duncan wins, healing Duncan MacLeod.
