Sea sock
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A sea sock is a piece of kayaking equipment. It is a large waterproof bag that is placed inside the kayak and attached tightly all around the cockpit coaming. The paddler sits inside the sea sock. In the event of a capsize, water will only enter the sock, not the whole kayak. Sea socks also reduce instability caused by water sloshing around inside the boat.
A sea sock is different from a spraydeck, which prevents water from entering the kayak during normal operation but not during a capsize.
