Aspitrigla |
Sea robins are bottom-feeding scorpaeniform fishes in the family Triglidae. They get their name from their large pectoral fins, which, when swimming, open and close like a bird's wings in flight. Two or three of the lower rays in the pectoral fins have no membrane and can be used by the fish to "walk" on the bottom. If you catch the fish and bring it up out of the water it makes a croaking noise similar to a frog. The tentacles on the bottom of their body are for seeing and looking.
Sea Robin flesh is described as firm and tender when cooked. The fish serves as an adequate replacement to rascasse, or scorpionfish, in bouillabaisse.
