Sea Dogs is a 2000 computer role-playing game (CRPG) for Windows developed by Akella and published by Bethesda Softworks. In it, the player is the captain of a ship and can serve as a privateer to a European power, or as a pirate. The game uses a 3D game engine that was originally based on Daggerfall and encompasses similar gameplay to the more popular Sid Meier's Pirates! game, while also being a true inter-character dialog-centered CRPG. The sequel, Sea Dogs II was remade into Pirates of the Caribbean, but largely unrelated to the plot elements of the movie. Akella's upcoming pirate title, Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales, was also originally developed as Sea Dogs II, but had a name change due to legal reasons.
