Seánie O'Leary

Seanie O'Leary (born 1954) is a former Irish sportsperson who played hurling for Cork in the 1970s and 1980s.

Seanie O'Leary was born in Youghal, County Cork in 1954. A natural goal scorer who could produce a goal out of nothing, O'Leary was a key part of the Cork teams in the late 1970s and 1980s. He first came to prominence at under-21 level, when Cork won All-Ireland titles in 1970, 1971 and 1973. His hurling honours at senior level include winning 9 Munster Championship medals with Cork (1976-1979 and 1982-1986). O'Leray's skilll as a supreme goal-scorer was very much to the fore in the 1984 Munster final. Cork were trailing Tipperary by four points with four minutes to go when O'Leary and Tony O'Sullivan scored two quick goals to clinch victory for Cork. O'Leary also won 4 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medals with Cork, on the famouus three-in-row team of 1976, 1977 and 1978. His fourth medal came in 1984. An agricultural finance manager with Irish Permanent, in recent years he has worked as a selector with Cork managers, Jimmy Barry-Murphy and Donal O'Grady. His son, Tomás O'Leary, plays rugby with Munster.
