[edit] Why

Why is this an actual article? Scrypt is not a real word. It is simply replacing an 'i' with a 'y'. Because one person suddenly tries to capture something that's been going on since the early 90's in one word does not make it real and accepted. There is essentially one forum where this "scrypt" element goes on that accepts the word. I do not feel that there whould be an article on something made up.

Most forums accept the word, there is only one site that collectively seems to dispute the use of it, and individuals across the boards, even from the board which the site originated. Its not made up, someone just made up a name for it. would it suit you if this article were renamed "Text"

Most forums? I have seen only two sites that accept the term "scrypt". Most hip-hop websites have never even heard of the term 'scrypt'. I, for one, don't believe this "scrypt" is an artform... let alone the "5th element of hip-hop". I think something that has been going on since around 1994 shouldn't be named something because of a vote on one websites. It is not just UPN and associates who have no use for this term, but the entire net.

Maybe you should gather up these supposed sites that have no respect for this word. The only people that have anything to say are the people at urbanprowlers (who, i might add, are notorious for mocking any and everything that any and everyone does) and random individuals from random sites. No other site as a whole has made any statements about this word. Saying it isn't an artform is ridiculous in itself. Its poetry, by any dictionary's definition of poetry. Regardless of if you think its a "notable" form of poetry, it's poetry, whether you like it or not. poetry <<--look it up. The scrypt article makes no mention of it being the 5th element of hiphop. If you dont think it's an artform, why are you here? What do you want? What you have to lose by this article being in existence? Are you embarassed? Are you just being a nuisance? I highly doubt you care about the quality of wikipedia, seeing as how you're bringing up unrelated information that's only been discussed on unrelated text forums such as something about 5th element of hiphop, which is nowhere to be found in the article which we are SUPPOSED to be discussing. Information about "scrypt" was already on wikipedia before this article was created. (It was mentioned in the articles for battle rap) People have been saying "script" and "text" since '1994', and everyone didn't care about it, Now a guy goes public with it, and somehow now you care just because he changed the spelling of its term? Are you throwing a fit, because of a word? REALLY?

Hey guys I see youve put a lot of work into this article, so please help with rapping, an article that people will read much more. Also, fix the spacing on this shit. peace--Urthogie 05:40, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

I did a lot of work with the hip-hop rivalries and subsequently attached pages, I'll help in any way I can. Richard Corey 13:40, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] History

and is now usually separated into "flexes" (writing that is either self-congratulatory or an attack of ones rivals; battles are a competition in which two or more writers write flexes and voters choose the winner; Note: often, the word "flex" is used solely for self-congratulatory writing, and "diss" is used for writing that attacks a competitor) and "topicals" (more figuratively expressive writing that is similar to traditional poetry conceptually).

^^^ I was thinking we could rewrite this section. So instead of deleting it i brought it in here. 65.120.87.195 14:11, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Self Promotion

Many text-battlers have garnered reputations that stretch from site to site such as: Lay Doubt, $pitacular and M~M from RapBattles; John Hensley, Butler, Allah, ClasSick, and Richard Corey from b-boys and ProjectRhyme; and Mimesis, 9th Degree, Nick Fletcher, JTR and hotshh! from RapVerse.

This serves no purpose other than to give shout outs. The paragraph about battling works fine without it. 63.40.226.211 03:39, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
