Scrameustache

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scrameustache is a fictional character in a Franco-Belgian comics series of the same name, written and drawn since 1972 by Gos (Roland Goossens) with the assistance of Walt (his son Walther) later on.

The Scrameustache is a cat-like alien that came to earth in his own flying saucer. He wears a blue jumpsuit, a gravity belt (a safety device that slows down his falls) and most famously, a bright red helmet with a brainwave-activated self-defense "lamp" that can be used to paralyse, turn to salt, shoot a laser or simply illuminate at will. He does not wear shoes, except in winter time, and his feet are furry.

He lives in a European village with a boy named Khéna and his uncle George. Khéna is in fact an alien orphaned on Earth at a very young age and adopted by George. The Scrameustache chose to keep an eye on him when he discovered that he was from the same planet as himself. The Scrameustache also has a dog-like robot named Tobor whose "mouth" has the same functions as the Scrameustache's helmet "lamp".

The Scrameustache series is very popular amongst elementary school children in several francophone countries.

Many of his early adventures are based on the theories popularised by Erich von Däniken that ancient civilisations were influenced by visitors from space (see ancient astronaut theory).
