[edit] Secretary of State

I've adjusted reference to there no longer being a separate office of Secretary of State for Scotland. The office does continue, but the holder also holds another office (currently Secretary of State for Transport). This is hard to explain succinctly as, at least in theory, there is only one office of Secretary of State, but which has multiple holders. Many functions conferred on the "Secretary of State" can be exercised by any Secretary of State, but in some cases they are conferred on named Secretaries of State (eg for Scotland) and can only be exercised by that particular Secretary of State.--George Burgess 13:41, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
