Scott Hightower

Scott Hightower is an American poet and teacher. He was born August 4, 1952 in Lampasas, Texas. He was the third child of a family that lived on a working ranch in central Texas. He earned his Bachelors of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, his Masters of Education from Antioch, Ohio, and his Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia University. He lives in New York City.

Hightower is the author of three books of poetry. His third, Part of the Bargain, won the 2004 Hayden Carruth Award.

Hightower is a contributing editor to The Journal and Barrow Street. He has taught at the Gay Men’s Health Crisis Center(GMHC), New York University (Gallatin School), Fordham University, and Drew University.
