Scooch

Scooch were a British pop band comprising Caroline Barnes, David Ducasse, Natalie Powers and Russ Spencer. They formed in 1999 after attending auditions for an "all-singing, all-dancing pop group". Signed to EMI-Parlophone, they created their image with manager Steve Crosby; the man behind Steps, and worked closely with well-established songwriters and producers Mike Stock and Matt Aitken.

The band's name 'Scooch' comes from a term used to ask someone to move up or along a bench or sofa.

Scooch won a contest on the BBC Saturday Morning show Live & Kicking in 1999. They competed against a boyband to have their single released. Even though the bands were already formed, This contest was unique as it pre-dates the format of the first Music talent reality show, ITV's Popstars in 2000 where the band Hear’Say was created from the show.

During the height of their short-lived popularity, they supported 5ive and B*Witched on their arena tours, as well as appear on many popular music and children's programmes at the time.

More Than I Needed To Know reached number one in Japan, and due to its popularity there, it was featured in DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX.

In September 2000, EMI-Parlophone terminated their contract, and the group decided against seeking renewal elsewhere. They got back together in January 2004 to perform at G-A-Y's Gone But Not Forgotten night. The success of this prompted the band to do a tour of several gay venues and events around the country.

In 2006 Russ appeared in the Channel 4 and E4 show Boys will be Girls where three failed pop star men form a new Girl Band.
