The Scooby Gang, or "Scoobies", are Buffy Summers and her friends and colleagues who assist her in her duties as slayer in the cult television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The first appearance of the term is in season two's "What's My Line, Part One", as spoken by Xander Harris. The name is a clear reference to the group of ghost-hunting teenagers from Scooby-Doo. The line-up of the group varied from year to year but the core remained intact throughout the programme's run, which was Buffy herself and her best friends, Willow and Xander. Most argue Giles, Buffy's watcher to be the fourth member, and he is widely accepted as being so, despite his absence from the majority of season six.
Coincidentally, Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actress who plays Buffy on the show, has also appeared in the films Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
