Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Conforms

Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Conforms was the motto of the Century of Progress, a world's fair held in Chicago in 1933-1934. The last part of the motto, "Man Conforms," reflects the work of the Chicago School of Sociology (from the University of Chicago) which, prior to the fair, investigated Chicago's tremendous increase in population, resulting from immigration from foreign countries as well as surrounding rural farmlands. The Chicago School studied how immigrants begun "learning to conform" and assimilate into the new country.
