Science Diet is the brand name of cat and dog foods marketed by Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. (a subsidiary of the Colgate-Palmolive Company).

[edit] History

Science Diet was developed in the 1960's by Mark L. Morris, Jr. DVM, PhD DVM. Morris Jr. is son of famed veternarian Mark Morris Sr. DVM who pioneered the field of veterinary clinical nutrition when he was asked to create a specialized diet to assist a dog with kidney problems. This led him and his son to create numerous other formulas to meet the particular needs in an animal's nutrition over the course of their lives, and potential varying states of health under the Prescription Diet and Science Diet brands. [citation needed]

Current products produced under the Science Diet brand are: canned and dry dog and cat foods, including puppy and kitten formulas, as well as a range of formulas from hairball remedy, and sensitive stomach, to weight loss and dental care. They also have a line of pet treats, meant for dietary supplementation.
