[edit] Personalizing a page

How do I add stuff like pictures and other stuff like you have on your page. If you know, my username/screenname is weatherdude.Weatherdude 00:30, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

For images, see Help:Images and other uploaded files. User pages edit the same way as articles and the rest of Wikipedia, so if you figure out something that works on Wikipedia, it will work on your user page. SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:26, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] In-Public

Thank you for your message.

I can confirm that in-public is not a commercial photography website. It is not to used to promote individual photographers work it is used to promote Street Photography. It has been set up by Street Photographers for Street Photographers. None of the photographers involved in in-public have made any commercial gain through the website. So therefore, I would like to add in-public to Wilkepedia as a useful source for people who are interested in and would like to see and know more about Street Photography.

Please do not remove this link again.

Thank you.

In-Public does promote Street Photographers, as it offers a gallery of only a select group of Street Photographers that are hand picked by the site's administrators. It has been removed in the past and deemed inappropriate prior to your adding the site. Please respect the determination by past users and cease the adding of this site on a daily basis. If we allowed this site to be included, then we would have to allow each and every site that includes pictures by street photographers, something that In-Public chooses not to do by the way.

The Photographers vote collectively on who will be invited to show work. Your work was obviously not of a high enough standard. Feel free to re-submit your work to them in the future.

Please do not remove this link again.

I will be forwarding this dialogue to the Wilkipedia Administrators.

Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.141.241.122 (talkcontribs).

We have discussed the in-public issue at Talk:Street photography, and many other editors besides me have removed the link. Thus the consensus seems to be that it is considered spam, and you are hereby asked not to repost it, because we will remove it. SchuminWeb (Talk) 22:09, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Temp/Palenque

I have deleted that page, the result of someone else's poor attempt at an interwiki translation on the Palenque artlce. Usable material seems to have been incorporated into main article, so the Temp IMO was no longer needed. However I wanted to ask you in the future not to move articles into someone else's user space without informing that user. Thanks, -- Infrogmation 21:07, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Navy Yard

Thanks! I wish I'd thought of that. -KXL —The preceding unsigned comment was added by KXL (talkcontribs) 21:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Space Shuttle and event tags

Is the 72-hour tab "valid"? By that, do you mean, "accurate"? Of course it is. But the article is about the space shuttle program, not about the December 2006 mission. This tag is absolutely unnecessary, it adds nothing of value to the article, and contributes to tag litter.

By this logic, there should be a current events tag on George W. Bush, since "details may change rapidly as events progress". And hey, Christmas is just around the corner. The article on Christmas has a section on the "Economics of Christmas". Now this year's shopping season may progress in different ways than expected. Should there therefore be a "Current Events" tag on the article on Christmas?

No, Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia (thank goodness), and we can update it at will. But neither is it a newspaper. Even if something does get updated during this launch, it does not necessitate this tag. Suppose we learn something new about the shuttle program during the launch. Then update it. But there is no reason to suppose that this article is going to change in any substantive, unexpected way over the course of this next mission. Unschool 22:39, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

For discussion on this matter that was cross-posted here, see Talk:Space Shuttle program. SchuminWeb (Talk) 23:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I understand your concern about the cross-posting, but could not figure out what else to do. You specifically state on your page that you want messages addressed to you to be posted here, but I felt that the message was also of interest to the general discussion. I must confess, this is not the first time that I've felt this minor dilemna. Any advice on how to handle it (I have asked others before, but gotten no universally applicable advice) would be appreciated. Unschool 23:08, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
My general rule of thumb is that if it's related to the user specifically, then it belongs on their user talk page. If it's something that is of more general concern, even if it also is likely of concern to the user, then post it to the article's talk page and skip the user talk page. More than likely, the user in question has the page watchlisted anyway, especially if they show up in the edit history. And besides that, since Wikipedia works on consensus, the opinion of the group is the important thing, rather than any one individual user. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:49, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Toyota Estima

On the Toyota Estima article, a guy calling himself TEOCWebmaster has described your correction of the link to the T.E.O.C. as "vandalism". This guy is part of a breakaway group which is causing trouble for the Toyota Estima Owners Club. I have corrected his link back rather than remove it as you did but would be very grateful if you could keep an eye on it. The correct link to our Club is www.estimaownersclub.com and not .org

Many thanks for your vigilance and help.

Paul Norton - President and Chairman - T.E.O.C.

Well, regardless of whatever off-wiki trouble this user may have been causing, the page fails Wikipedia's own link guidelines saying no forums, and that site is primarily a discussion forum from what I can tell. SchuminWeb (Talk) 16:23, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
He's put the link back which you removed from the Toyota Previa article too! ::) T.E.O.C. 16:37, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
I'll take care of it. I've had both articles watchlisted for a long time, so I'll get it. Also, not having yet looked at the talk pages, have you posted similar information to the articles' talk pages? This appears to be something of general interest to the article's participants. SchuminWeb (Talk) 16:41, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Many thanks. No, I think our problems shouldn't intrude. I have contributed to the discussion on merging the two articles though and I hope it helps. Thanks again. T.E.O.C. 16:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, whether the problems should or should not intrude, they quite apparently are (despite our desire to the contrary). It also does seem like something that others need to know about. SchuminWeb (Talk) 16:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ref conv

Sorry for the downtime. References converter is now back up and running. About a week ago the hard drive in my server crashed. Luckily it stayed together long enough to allow me to pull all the data off onto a new hard drive, but I still had to go through the process of installing Linux on the new hard drive, installing all the necessary programs, and loading in all of the old data from the server. I got all of my essential services up within two days (CVS, Apache, Wiki), but I kind of forgot about web scripts, which I finally got around to fixing today. Everything should be fully functional again. If you see any bugs, just send me a message. You are receiving this message because you are on the spamlist. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, simply remove your name. --Cyde Weys 19:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
