Schuylkill, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a neighborhood in South Philadelphia. Schuylkill is the 19146 area code, which lies on the west side of broad street as far as 21st street, where the Point Breeze neighborhood starts, and from the south side of washington avenue as far as Tasker street where Passyunk starts. Schuylkill has long time been one of South Philly's most crime stricken areas due to murders, drug dealing, poverty, and inadequate public schools. During the 90's, this area was never a safe walking ground in the day or night. However, Kenny Gamble, and city development has restored many abandon houses in the area, and Schuylkill is currently experiencing a period of gentrification.
