Schenectady museum amateur radio association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schenectady Museum Amateur Radio Association is an Amateur Radio Organization based out of the Schenectady Museum in Schenectady, New York. The club has a fully-equipped station in the Museum basement, and also operates two repeaters and an eQSO link under the W2IR callsign.

The club is unique amongst local Amateur Radio Organizations in that business meetings are conducted on the club's 2 meter repeater. This has two effects. First, club members need not travel to attend meetings (useful as some members are diabled), and second, the club's operation is fully transparent.

In addition to the on-air business meetings, social meetings are held at the museum once per month, and may feature presentations on topics of interest, may be work parties to perform maintenance on the equipment, or may be simply an opportunity to gather and socialise.

SMARA has participated in Amateur Radio Field Day since 2002.

The club has 53 members as of July, 2006.
