Schechter

Schachter, Schächter, Schechter, Schacter (yiddish: šechter, Schecter..) is the Germanised form of shochet (See also "Schächten (DE)", the Germanised verb 'to slaughter'). It is a common German family name who's meaning is equivalent to Butcher. Other similarly derivated names include Metzger, Resnick, Fleischer and Fleischmann.
