Scattering (optics)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Optics scattering deals with electromagnetic radiation scattering, absorption, and extiction by particles, molecules and surfaces. Both single scattering and multiple scattering (i.e. radiative transfer) are considered in this category. According to optics classification of the Optical Society of America it consists of the following subcategories:

  • Aerosol and cloud effects
  • Atmospheric scattering
  • Backscattering
  • Diffusion
  • Extinction
  • Index measurements
  • Inverse scattering
  • Linewidth
  • Long-wave scattering
  • Mie theory
  • Multiple scattering
  • Scattering measurements
  • Scattering, Brillouin
  • Scattering, molecules
  • Scattering, particles
  • Scattering, Raman
  • Scattering, Rayleigh
  • Scattering, rough surfaces
  • Scattering, stimulated
  • Scattering, stimulated Brillouin
  • Scattering, stimulated Raman
  • Scintillation
