Scarborough Centre is a station on the Scarborough Rapid Transit line of the subway/RT system in Toronto, Canada. It is located north of Ellesmere Road between Brimley and McCowan Roads, just south of Highway 401.

It was opened in 1985, and replaced a transit access to the Scarborough Town Centre shopping mall. Other nearby landmarks include the Scarborough Civic Centre (the former city hall), Albert Campbell Square, and the Scarborough YMCA.

A number of connecting buses serve the lower level, including TTC routes running into York Region on the 129A McCowan North. Other TTC routes include:

Scarborough Centre is also served by GO Transit buses, running along the Lakeshore East and Highway 407/York University corridors. There are also intercity links from Greyhound Canada, Coach Canada, and Can-Ar, and casino services.

[edit] Subway extension

The Toronto Transit Commission hope in future to extend the Sheppard line south-east from its current terminus at Don Mills to Scarborough Centre; for the moment, the 190 Rocket Express bus links the two stations, making limited stops (apart from traffic congestion) along Sheppard Avenue.

[edit] Light rapid transit extension and replacement

The TTC is hoping of a replacement of the SRT for light rail transit, with an extension to Sheppard East in Malvern. Because of the low cost of LRT, the Bloor-Danforth subway extension, from Kennedy to Sheppard East got turned down. This extension will be considered later, though, as the TTC has bigger priorites to deal with: The potential Sheppard line extension above and the Spadina line extension from Downsview to Steeles West, and eventually, Vaughan Corporate Centre.

The station is on three levels; the Scarborough RT is on the upper level, the mezzanine, and passenger entry from the mall and nearby buildings is on the middle level, and the bus terminal is at ground level. There is elevator access for the TTC services.
