Saz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Saz (from Persian: ساز sāz, "music") is a plucked stringed instrument, popular in Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the Balkan countries, a member of the long-necked lute family which came to lesser Asia along with the Turkish immigration[citation needed]. The saz descended from the kopuz, a generic name for several forms of string instrument, that was being used by the Turkish tribes of Central Asia around 8th century.[citation needed] The Saz is used in Ottoman classical, Turkish folk music, Kurdish Music, Azeri Music and Persian Music. Another instrument of the long-necked lute family is the Bulgarian tambura.
