Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg

Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg was a county (Grafschaft) located in the southeastern Sauerland, Germany (in the modern state of North Rhine-Westphalia). Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg was a partition of Sayn-Wittgenstein. It was partitioned twice: the first time between itself, Sayn-Wittgenstein-Homburg and Sayn-Wittgenstein-Neumagen in 1631; and the second time between itself, Sayn-Wittgenstein-Karlsburg and Sayn-Wittgenstein-Ludwigsburg in 1694. It was raised from a county to a principality in 1792, and was mediatised to Hesse-Darmstadt in 1806 before being annexed to Prussia in 1816.
