Saya no Uta (沙耶の唄? lit. Saya's Song) is an adult visual novel by Nitroplus with gore and horror elements.

Some fans consider the plot to be Lovecraft-like. Although direct references of Mythos elements are minimal, the dark, eerie atmosphere essentially reminds people of his works. Also, Nitroplus is more well-known for the production of the heavily Mythos-inspired Demonbane series.

[edit] Plotline

Fuminori Sakisaka has a traffic accident which killed his parents and left him heavily injured. While he had a brain surgery to save his life, his perception of the world has changed: everything he sees becomes blood and guts, people's looks and voices seem like monsters, and delicious food tastes disgusting.

As he contemplates suicide in hospital, Fuminori meets a beautiful girl among the flesh-covered walls. She introduces herself as Saya, and is apparently looking for her father. Due to his loneliness, Fuminori does not want to be separated with Saya, and thus ask Saya to live with him, which she agrees.

However, while to Fuminori, Saya appears as a normal girl when everything else in his point of view is flesh and guts, normal people see it differently — just as he sees normal things as flesh and blood, Fuminori sees actual flesh and blood as normal. Saya is actually an intelligent monster, though what she actually looks like is never revealed (the only revelations are that she is covered in slime and have large tentacles). Her favorite food is human flesh, and her hobby is modifying brains and human bodies. However, as Fuminori genuinely love Saya, Saya does not kill much for his sake.

The truth is revealed when Fuminori comes home to see Saya eating the slime-covered corpse of a girl he knows (appears as yellow-green jelly-like thing in Fuminori's eyes). When he tried it, he actually finds the human flesh delicious due to his twisted senses.

There are three endings, depending on the choices that the player makes:

  1. Saya helps Fuminori returns to normal, and leaves him since she does not want to reveal her true hideous self. Fuminori becomes confined in a madhouse for the rest of his life.
  2. Saya is killed by Koji, one of Fuminori's friends. Fuminori committed suicide upon Saya's death, and Koji turned crazy.
  3. Saya and Fuminori kill Koji together. Afterwards, it turns out that Saya has reached the last stage and the ultimate goal of her life: reproduction. The spore-like matter she releases is a mutating agent aimed at humans, created by researching the human genome obtained during sex with Fuminori. The "spore" is spread across the globe by updrafts, slowly turning the entire human population into Saya-like creatures.
