Tarun Mullick is the original inventor of Miniature Ingestible Capsule and received the US patent# 7039453 on May2,2006 along with Dr.Sudhir Dutta one of his early mentors. His journey for this invention began when he received his Eagle badge from Boy Scouts under Scoutmaster Blackstone leadership given by an astronaut at age 13.During this time as a explorer scout,he spent a day with local Gastroenterologist Dr.Blaine Cobb in Corning,NY at age 14,where he saw a few GI procedures and said to himself,"How about a Capsule Camera which could be swallowed like James Bond thrillers which he used to watch".That started his inventive brain--then he decided to attend Phillips Exeter Academy in 1987 where his teachers came from Oxford/MIT/Harvard and one of his mentor's father had won Nobel Prize in Chemistry and he received top awards there.Johns Hopkins Univ.offered him Hodson Scholar based on merit in 1989 where he did successful research and received Larabee Biophysics award. He was admitted to Johns Hopkins medical School at the age of 20/21 where his research work brought him award.Later during his residency at JHU-Sinai and GI Fellowships in Gastroenerology at Cleveland Clinic Foundation and advanced ERCP/EUS/Therapeutic Endoscopy training at Univ. of Virginia Digestive Diseases center in Charlottesville( where he was a clinical instructor also),he received top awards from ACG and others. He is perhaps the youngest on the board of editors for GastroEndo News magazine. In 2004,he again received clinical award. In his current practice,he has detected cancers in patients missed by other Gastroenterologists because of thorough training under top Gastroenterologists in the USA and his research oriented mind looking for all possibilities when a patient's problems are there without relief. His role as an series editor of GastroEndo News keeps him on top of the latest in his GI field along with his research and clinical practice. His goal is for early detection and cure of CANCER.
His dream of recognition of his invention finally came true when US patent office informed him about his patent in April,2006.
