Satellite Beach, Florida

Satellite Beach is a small city located about 30 min east of Orlando and just 15 minutes south of Cape Canaveral. Brevard County, Florida, USA. The population was 9,577 at the 2000 census. As of 2005, the population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau is 9,811 [1].

Satellite Beach is located at GR1. It is referred to as a barrier city because it lies on an island that is situated in front of the mainland. It is accessible by the Pineda Causeway (State Road 404) and the Eau Gallie Causeway, both of which come from the neighboring city of Melbourne. It is mainly a beachy area only a few feet above sea level. There is barely any elevation due to its location near the ocean and most of the ground is just beach sand, crushed shells, and small layer of top soil followed by the ocean water below.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.7 km² (3.4 mi²). 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is land and 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it (29.46%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 9,577 people, 3,952 households, and 2,877 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,553.7/km² (4,030.6/mi²). There were 4,257 housing units at an average density of 690.6/km² (1,791.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.99% White, 1.02% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.55% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.67% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.95% of the population.
There were 3,952 households out of which 26.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the city the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 23.0% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $55,571, and the median income for a family was $63,442. Males had a median income of $42,079 versus $28,259 for females. The per capita income for the city was $27,181. About 2.7% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.2% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over.
