Satan rir media

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Satan rir Media (Satan Rides the Media) is a Norwegian documentary created by Torstein Grude on account of the homicide committed by Varg Vikernes. It was also a reaction on the media coverage on this murder and the Norwegian Black Metal scene, and especially on the film Lords of Chaos by American journalist Michael Moynihan. Lords of Chaos attempts to explain the mentality of the early Norwegian Black Metal scene, but did this according to the Black Metal scene itself in a hyped and inaccurate way, focusing too much on violent incidents like the burning of churches and especially the murder of Euronymous, guitarist of the band Mayhem, by the bands bass player Varg Vikernes

Satan rir Media proved that journalist Finn Bjørn Tønder of Bergens Tidende, after completing an anonymous interview with Vikernes, immediately paid the police a visit and informed them about his findings. Vikernes was arrested the same night. Satan rir media also showed how the Norwegian news media hyped the Satanist angle and unwittingly created a mass following for this relatively small group of teenage boys, both in Norway and internationally.
