[edit] Rant
Well, let me respond here. Your accusations make no sense at all. I don't mind what you'd like to call yourself, that's fine with me, neither do I deny that there are many Suryoye who call themselves Assyrians, but what I am opposed to is the imposing of that name upon the Syriacs as a whole, because there are numerous people who reject that very name. And despite your denial, there are many examples of the self-identifying name "Aramaeans", even in the East Syriac tradition. --Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 23:02, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I apologise for having been a bit pushy when I'd just joined Wikipedia, I shouldn't have indiscriminately changed Assyrians into Syriacs in those days.
Like I said, I do acknowledge the fact that there are people who consider themselves Assyrians. The question whether there is a direct connection with the ancient Assyrians should in my opinion be left up to the historians, Assyriologists in particular, and I believe that all we ought to do is to present their findings, juxtaposing their arguments and positions, the pros and the contras, from a neutral point-of-view.
I will try and help expand Syriacs from a disambiguation page to a full article. In my opinion it should first present the origin of the name ܣܘܖ̈ܝܝܐ, explaining the various meanings and connotations attributed to it. It could have sections on Aramaeans, Assyrians, Chaldeans, perhaps Maronites and Melkites, linking to the respective articles.

[edit] Ok
I checked Google books, and I guess you are right. I just feel that in everyday meaning (in the news for example), when someone says "Syrians", it's relating to Syria. —Khoikhoi 19:33, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't mind that much. It's doesn't really make much of a difference, either way, now that you think about it. FYI, the dab page should be at Syrians, not Syriacs as citizens of Syria don't call themselves that. —Khoikhoi 19:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your page move of Arab Christians
Hello, Wikipedia has clear procedures on moving pages. Other than in exceptional circumstances all pages should be moved by following the instructions on the Requested Moves page. Unilateral moves can trigger edit wars, break links and cause a lot of problems. Please stop unilaterally moving pages and follow the correct procedure.
