Sarpagandha is a herbal root of Sarpagandha [Latin: Rauvolfia serpentina], an important remedy of Ayurveda. The herbs were used in Maniacal syndromes in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

Recently some alkaloids have been drawn from the roots. One of them, Reserpine, is useful in High Blood pressure treatment.
