[edit] Sarepta's Name Origin
Sarepta was named for the town's first church's benefactor, Sarepta Carter. Local history tells us that Mrs. Carter donated a bible to the town's church under the premise the church be named after her. Years later the curch split causing the original name to be changed to Old Sarepta and the new church to be named New sarepta. Old Sarepta MBC is currently under the pastorate of Bro. Charles Woolley. Sarepta may also have been named after a biblical city in Pheonicia. [1]
[edit] Schools
Information about the Sarepta School district can be found at: http://sarepta.webster.k12.la.us/
Sarepta has a K-12 High School located on 6021 Hwy 2, Sarepta, LA. 71071. The school's mascot is the Hornet; the colors are Maroon and White.
Band: Sarepta's now canceled band program, due to the lack of importance over the football team reguarded by the principal Mr. Jeff Franklin and because very few students felt it important to enroll in the program, was highly reguarded by local and state population for several years recently. The band scored many superior marks at the LMEA Concert Band Fest. on district and state levels between years 2001-2005 under the direction of Mr. Ansel Gadd.
