Sarekat Islam, formerly Sarekat Dagang Islam, is an Indonesian organization.

Sarekat Dagang Islam was founded by Samanhudi, one of businessman in Surakarta, in 1912. His business was batik, the traditional clothes in Java. Sarekat Dagang Islam had as its goal to empower local businesspeople, especially in the batik industry.

Because Sarekat Dagang Islam got bigger and had to manage more issues, it was reorganized to become Sarekat Islam. Sarekat Islam's general office was in Surabaya. There was a famous leader of Sarekat Islam: H.O.S. Cokroaminoto. H.O.S. Cokroaminoto had 3 famous students that in next period, they coloured Indonesian politics. The students were: Soekarno the nationalist, Semaun the socialist, and Kartosuwiryo the religious.
