Sarakhs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sarakhs is a city located in the northeastern part of the province of Khorassan, Iran. It was a stop point along the Silk Road, and had many libraries.
The Mongols plundered and destroyed the city in 1220, but it was rebuilt in mid 19th century by the order of Nasser-al-Din Shah of Qajar dynasty. The resurrected city of Sarakhs, in its early days of resurrection, possibly the first 50 years, was called Sarakhs-e Nasseri (in persian: سرخس ناصری) or Sarakhs of Nasser.
