[edit] Character history

Sarah Winthrop was conceived in March 2002, the night that Theresa Crane was confessing to the murder of her then-husband, Julian. When it was revealed that both Julian and Theresa were alive and well, Ethan began having doubts about his relationship Gwen. He even bought an engagement ring for Gwen but had second thoughts at the last minute about who to give it to.

Ethan eventually chose to give the ring to Theresa, but changed his mind when he discovered that Gwen was pregnant. Gwen told Ethan not to propose to her because of the baby, but Ethan insisted that he loved her, and the two became engaged. They were married shortly before Christmas on December 19, 2002, despite Theresa's best efforts to win Ethan back for herself.

Unfortunately, Gwen began experiencing complications in her pregnancy, and she and Ethan flew to Los Angeles to be under the care of a specialist, Dr. Abel. Gwen was eventually put on bed rest, but left the hospital in to find Ethan when she saw Ethan kissing Theresa, whom she did not know was in L.A., on television. The two women engaged in a verbal confrontation which quickly turned physical when Gwen attacked Theresa from behind and then fell.

Gwen was rushed back to the hospital, where her husband, Ethan, was given a choice: save his wife, or save his unborn baby. Ethan eventually chose to save his wife, and baby Sarah was stillborn on October 8, 2003. Her death was a tragedy, the ramifications of which can still be felt throughout Harmony.
