[edit] Character History

Pezzini was born November 18, 1970. Her major enemies are The Darkness aka Jackie Estacado, Kenneth Irons, Ian Nottingham. (Sara briefly dated Kenneth Irons before discovering his evil nature.) She is of above average intelligence and is very athletic. She has police training in hand-to-hand combat, weapons and tactics. Her favorite weapons include various firearms and the Witchblade.

As the current wielder of the Witchblade, Pezzini has been granted many unique abilities, including the power to heal herself, to create armor over her skin (as the Witchblade tends to rip away all of her clothes), to shoot energy blasts, and to extend razor sharp tendrils. She has yet to explore the full limits of the Witchblade, and thus does not know what other mystical abilities it possesses. When not overly active, the Witchblade can assume the form of a Bracelet. This allows her to wear the weapon without drawing attention. The Witchblade is a sentient artifact. As such, she does not have complete control over its actions, and reactions.

Pezzini first appeared in Cyblade/Shi #1: The Battle For Independents in 1995. She had wanted nothing more in her life than to be a good cop. As a homicide detective in New York City, life was challenging enough, but for Pezzini those were simpler times. While on an undercover case at the Rialto Theater, both She and her partner (named Michael Yee in the comics and Danny Woo in the TV series) were mortally wounded. At this same theater was a man named Kenneth Irons, who had brought a gauntlet known as the Witchblade. Irons was in search of the secrets to unlocking its power. While Pezzini was breathing in her last breath, the Witchblade made its choice to include her in the long line of women that it has shared its power with. The mystic artifact healed her wounds, and allowed her to survive the resulting confrontation. Since then, she has seen many things she never knew existed, fought creatures that have no place on Earth, and longed for the days of a typical NYPD detective. But she continues her struggle with the Witchblade, beliveing that she can do more good with the weapon than without. So the battle for control continues, as Pezzini learns more about this mysterious artifact of power, and struggles to stem its violent nature.

In the comics, some of Pezzini's allies include the Magdalena, Lara Croft, and Jackie Estacado. One crossover pitted her against Wolverine. In the comics recently, she has been through a grueling ordeal fighting off a giant demon (a false "god" summoned by a group of priests), in the midst of which left her partner, Jake McCarthy, wounded. Before losing consciousness he professed his love for her and told her that he always knew about her double life. He now remains in a coma, and Pezzini has had to deal with a nosy new partner, Detective Gleason, who has already discovered many of her secrets. Gleason saved her life and it had begun to look like they may become more than just partners, but their date was interrupted when Ian Nottingham abruptly returned to Sara's life.

[edit] The Witchblade

The Witchblade itself is a sentient weapon described in the series as "a branch torn from the tree of good and evil." In the comics, the Witchblade (and its male counterpart Excalibur) is described as the "bastard offspring" of the cosmic forces of the Darkness ("evil" and "chaos") and Angelus ("good" and "order"), and therefore acts as a force of balance. The Witchblade requires a host to make it whole, and chooses one every generation.

In the Witchblade television series, Pezzini is also able to use the Witchblade in certain instances to slow, stop, or even turn back time. However due to the time turning ability things said about the series are often only true for one season or the other.

She also has the ability to see and speak with the ghost of Danny Woo, her dead partner.

In order to handle The Witchblade, she must first pass the Periculum, a test designed to find if one is worthy of carrying such an amazing weapon. Once a potential user has passed this test, The Witchblade will bond with them at a cellular level and slow the aging process.

In the TV series it is revealed that Pezzini was not only adopted, but stolen from her birth mother when she was a baby. It is hinted that her real last name is Connor. (Not to be confused with Sarah Connor, the heroine of The Terminator movies).

Her main romantic interest in the TV series is a musician named Conchobar who is a descendent or reincarnation of Conchobar mac Nessa.

Pezzini now finds herself trying to figure out the origins of the weapon she now carries, as well as the purpose that is destined for her. Her archnemesis is businessman Kenneth Irons. Irons has in his employ one Ian Nottingham who is both Pezzini's friend and enemy. In the comics, for a time she and Nottingham became romantically involved. In the television series, however, it was hinted that they are as closely related as twins, which would make such a relationship incestuous. In any event, their relationship is often troubled by a basic clash in personalities; Pezzini tends to be impulsive and hot-headed, whereas Nottingham is cold and calculating.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the TV series, she also has a friend named Gabriel Bowman who runs a rare artifacts shop. He gave her a drumset on the house.
  • In the comics, Pezzini has an obnoxious sister, Julie, who sometimes crashes at her apartment and empties the beer from her fridge. In the television series, Julie becomes a villain.
