[edit] Description
Santa Rita School is an elementary school located on the north side of the district, approximately one mile from the downtown center of the City of Los Altos . The neighborhoods served by Santa Rita are located between Foothill and Central Expressways in the cities of Los Altos, Mountain View and Palo Alto. Santa Rita students feed into Egan Intermediate School for 7th and 8th grades.
Santa Rita was constructed from 1957 to 1961. As part of the district's facilities modernization program, Santa Rita was renovated during the 2003-04 school year. Students and staff returned to their newly remodeled campus in August 2004.
Originally built for 300 Students, Santa Rita is currently serving 548 children. There are eleven portable classrooms on campus. In phase two of the construction program (as yet unfunded) Santa Rita will get new classroom buildings as well. The school has been reconstructed to house up to 600 students.
Santa Rita's student body has grown by 20 students in the last ten years. The current student population is very diverse. The racial/ethnic composition of the school is 53% Caucasian, 36% Asian, 8% Hispanic, and a small mix of other groups. The school receives some state and federal funding to help educate students who have limited proficiency in the English language.
The academic performance at Santa Rita is consistently near the top in the state as measured by the Academic Performance Index (API). Santa Rita ranks as a 10 in the statewide ranking and a 10 when measured against similar schools.
