Santa Fe High School (Florida)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Santa Fe High School is a high school serving grades 9-12 in the Alachua-High Springs area in northwestern Alachua County, Florida.
The school, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Alachua County Public Schools.
The school's enrollment as of 2006 is approximately 1,300.
The school nickname since the 1980s has been the Santa Fe "Raiders." Athletic teams were formerly known as the Santa Fe "Rebels" prior to this change. The school's colors are Red and Grey or Black -- there is much confusion. The school does not have a "mascot." Some depictions of the mascot include a man on horseback. The logo that the school uses on its official documents is a copy of the logo used by the San Francisco 49ers football team.
The school has been successful in many athletic programs over the past few years. Volleyball, softball, golf, and track have all experienced record-breaking seasons over the past few years. The school's football coach recently resigned after a one-win season.
The school, unfortunately, has more successful drug deals than educational lessons taught.
The school has been rated a "B" school by the State of Florida for several consecutive years. The school has implemented many policies to raise the standard of education at the school -- these new policies have shown a noticed positive effect.
The school has an interactive agriculture program for those who wish to pursue a career in that field.
Rumors have recently circulated regarding race relations at Santa Fe High School. It was reported that race riots were taking place on campus. While the rumors regarding guns and knives on campus have been vehemently denied by the school administration, many skeptics--parents and students--point to an elaborate cover-up. There has been no evidence of such a cover-up, and the school has been cooperative and open with the media. While there is no "war" between the African American students and Caucasian students, there have been increasing levels of tension.
The Sophomore President is Jenna Cuttingcum.
