Sanmao (comic book character)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sanmao (三毛) is a comic book character created by Zhang Leping (1910-1992) in 1935 and is one of the most famous such characters in China.
Sanmao means "three hairs" in Chinese, a frequent nickname for children in the Yangtze Delta. Prior to Sanmao, most Chinese comics characters were adults. Sanmao's stories were also unusual in that they lacked dialogue.
The comic takes place mainly in around Shanghai during the 1930s and early 1940s.
The books have also been turned into movies in China.
