Özel Sankt Georg Avusturya Lisesi, also known as Österreichisches St. Georgs-Kolleg Istanbul is an Austrian high school in Istanbul, Turkey.

[edit] History of the school
The school was founded in 1892 and was intended for German-speaking students living in Ottoman Empire. After the Austrian defeat in First World War, the school was closed and all of its staff was sent back to Austria. The school was reopened shortly afterwards when the republic of Turkey was founded. But after the invasion of Austria by Germany in 1938, the school turned into a "German school" and it was closed once again. It was reopened in 1947.
[edit] Curriculum at Sankt Georg
The school combines both the Austrian and the the Turkish curriculum to prepare its students for the Turkish and austrian school leaving examinations and to enrich their general knowledge. Under the current curriculum, students at St.George can learn up to 3 foreign languages. German and English are the 2 compulsory foreign languages taught at St.Georg. Aside from these two languages, students can choose either Latin or French as their third foreign language.

- Turkish qualification (Lise diplomasi)
- Austrian Matura: Students wishing to pursue their tertiary education at universities in Austria, or in the EU generally, have the right to sit the Austrian Reifeprüfung/Matura examination at St.Georg. Once students pass the examination, they obtain the Matura certificate,which is equivalent to IB.

The current library of school opened in 1988, after 2 small libraries within the school building were brought together.It contains more than 15000 books (2006), periodicals/magazines in Turkish and German, and CDs/DVDs.
[edit] Alumni of Sankt Georg
Alumni of St.Georg gather at school every year in the last week of April at an annual Alumni Day called Strudeltag. Another annual Alumni Day is organised around May in Vienna, which is intended for graduates of St.Georg living/studying in Austria or in other European countries.
